What is BBL?

BroadBand Light (BBL) is corrective phototherapy for skin imperfections and blemishes. It utilizes bursts of powerful light energy to gently warm the skin’s surface, eradicating superficial damage while simultaneously boosting the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin. BBL has the ability to transform your complexion, leaving you with a luminous, glowing appearance that only improves over time.

BBL can be used to address concerns in the following areas:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Arms
  • Chest
  • Back
  • Legs
  • Stomach
  • Buttocks

How Does BBL Work?

BBL works by emitting potent pulses of light energy that span the visible light spectrum, starting with blue light (420nm) and extending into infrared light (1400nm). The different light bands interact with molecules in the body, such as water, hemoglobin, and melanin. Thus, BBL treatment can zero in on specific concerns such as spider veins, acne scarring, or age spots. BBL also applies thermal heat to the skin's deeper layers, which stimulates the production of collagen, a protein that creates a more supple, resilient skin texture and scaffolding.

What Happens During My Session?

At the start of your session, your provider will coat the skin with a cooling gel to ensure your comfort and peace of mind. The BBL device settings will be adjusted to correspond with your unique complexion concerns. The device is then moved across the treatment areas, delivering powerful light energy that both improves the skin's superficial layer and encourages collagen renewal in the deeper layers. You may experience a warm, tingling sensation during a BBL appointment, but most patients do not consider their sessions to be painful. Your entire treatment should last no more than 30 to 40 minutes.

Recovery After BroadBand Light

With Sciton BBL therapy, patients do not need to plan ahead for recovery. The treatment is gentle and comes with no downtime. Mild redness and swelling may occur in the treatment zones, but these symptoms will fade within a day or so. You will need to avoid exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays as your skin heals, being careful to wear sunblock with an SPF of 50 when you go outside. Other than that, there are no restrictions, and you can immediately resume your normal schedule.

Your Results

Within around one week of your session, you will notice a smoother, firmer complexion and a more youthful appearance overall. As collagen and elastin production slowly increase in the coming weeks, your skin texture and tone will continue to improve. Some patients may need more than one BBL appointment to achieve their anti-aging goals.
